OneNote Notebooks

Please complete your April 4th To Do List before following directives for known issues. If you experience problems with your desktop apps remember to use web applications on Office.com.


Complete OneNote guidance in these steps :

  1. Follow the guidance on this page on your OneNote desktop app

  2. Once you have completed reconnecting your desktop notebooks sign out of OneNote mobile app and sign back in again to prompt an update

  3. If the mobile fails to update, remove the OneNote app and reinstall via Company portal, this will force update the mobile app version.


OneNote notebooks may fail to sync after the cutover as location paths will have changed from cdcgroup.com to bii.co.uk.

You may notice a red X appears alongside your notebooks along with the words Not Syncing or a ribbon alert above your notebook that reads 'To sync this notebook, sign in to OneNote'

Before reconnecting your notebooks to its new location, make sure you take a back up of your OneNote from your Desktop App.

Back Up NoteBooks

1. Open the OneNote app

2. Go to File > Options

3. In OneNote Options, choose Save & Back

4. On the right ,under Save, click Back Up All Notebooks Now.

5. When you see the notice that the backup is successfully completed, click OK

If you experience any issues saving a back up please contact helpdesk.

Reconnect Your Notebooks

To reconnect un-synced Notebooks please only use your OneNote notebook. Go to File menu to view a list of your connected notebook.

Select the notebook you need to sync and Open Settings and select Properties

In the following dialogue you are able to 'Change Location...'

Now you can select the desired path. Please save your notebook in your OneDrive > Documents > OneNote Notebooks folder as follows:

Open OneDrive > Documents > Onenote Notebooks

New location : OneNote Notebooks

OneNote is syncing changes

When process is complete you will get the following confirmation

To confirm OneNote is now synced go to File and confirm the notebook is stored at the following path :

OneNote Version Errors

If your BII account is not detected from your login you may be on an older version of OneNote. Close down OneNote from your desktop and follow these instructions:

1. Go to Office.com and launch OneNote from the app launcher

2. From OneNote dashboard select 'My Notebooks'

3. Click the three dots next to your desired notebook then 'Open' and 'Open in Desktop App' (see above)

4. A security pop up appears saying 'This site is trying to Open OneNote for Windows10' select 'Open'

5. A notification will appear requesting you to pick an account to sign in with select 'Work or School account'

6. A pop up will list any detected accounts on your device select your BII.CO.UK account

7. You will be prompted to log into OneNote with your BII.CO.UK password

8. Once logged in the Notebook will begin to sync into your OneNote.

Note * Your OneNote may read firstname@CDC Group, you can change this to BII by right clicking the notebook and updating the 'Nickname Notebook'.

9. Pin the new app to your taskbar and remove the old OneNote connection to avoid confusion

10. Open each Notebook in turn, and select Open in OneNote from the top menu bar.

Your notebooks will now be restored and synchronise as they did previously.


Duplicate Notebooks

You may notice duplicate notebooks after you have synced to the new location. All that's needed now is to perform a clean up and remove any notebooks you no longer require.

Identify the duplicate notebook and rename it 'Dup 042022' for ease.

Nickname Notebook to rename a notebook. + Close This Notebook to remove a notebook.

If you want to remove the Notebook from your list 'Close this Notebook'.

Tip: When you remove a notebook from the list, it’s not deleted but put in your OneNote recycle bin for 60 days.

To get it back, click File > Open and choose the notebook you want to reopen from the Recently Used Notebooks list. After 60 days this option will not be available and notebooks are permanently deleted.
