Broken Links
Impact : Broken links to files + shortcuts shared to and from your personal OneDrive
Your OneDrive URL is based on your User Principal Name (your user account name)
Example URL : https://cdcgroupcom-my.sharepoint.com/personal/xxxxx_cdcgroup_com/
Once we switch to Bii.co.uk your OneDrive URL will change to:
https://cdcgroupcom-my.sharepoint.com/personal/xxxxx_bii_co_uk/
How does this impact shared files internally and externally?
After a UPN change, any saved links to your OneDrive (such as desktop shortcuts or browser favourites) will no longer work and will need to be updated.
If you've shared OneDrive files with others, the links will no longer work. You will need to re-share the files.
Is there a workaround?
There are 2 workarounds to use if you require immediate access to a file :
Option 1 - Re-share 'Shared by you' files from OneDrive web portal
You can re- share access to all your shared files from your OneDrive web portal. Go to Office.com and select OneDrive from your app launcher.
You'll be redirected to your OneDrive web portal. From the left hand navigation select 'Shared' and then 'Shared by you' to access all items shared from your OneDrive.
For each item click on the 'three dots' and 'share' the links again. Input new details to re-share and send.
Option 2 - Update the Shared file URL
Find an email with a shared link to a file :
Click 'Open', you should expect to see a 404 FILE NOT FOUND page.
On the URL of the 404 File Not Found page, where you see your username xxxxx_cdcgroup_com replace this with your new Bii details e.g xxxxx_bii_co_uk/
The update URL should appear as this
You'll notice the browser has recognised a change to the URL and the file details will now appear above the option to open. Press 'Continue' to open.
Option 2 is not an ideal way to regain access as you'll have to do this each time you access a shared document.
Use this method only as an immediate fix. We recommend Option 1 or ask the sender to re- share the document again
